What's Happening at TowerSquare - April 2008

DiGrigoli to Speak at Admin Professionals Day Luncheon

What do people think of you based on how you are dressed?  Does your personal grooming impact your ability to get ahead in the market place?  Paul DiGrigoli says "Absolutely!"  And the owner and president of DiGrigoli Salons, Inc., will be at the Meeting Room on Wednesday, April 23 to address the attendees at the annual Tower Square Administrative Professionals Day Luncheon.

Presenting "The Power Behind Your Appearance", DiGrigoli will offer the attendees tips and techniques for looking and feeling their best.  A team of associates will accompany DiGrigoli, who is also the owner of DiGrigoli School of Cosmetology and DiGrigoli Advanced Academy, from the salon.  Those associates will perform make-overs on two volunteers from the audience.  They will also be offering neck and shoulder massages to attendees.

The lunch, prepared by Villa Pizza, will include chicken parmigiana, penne, chef salad,  homemade garlic rolls, dessert & beverage.  The luncheon event honoring administrative professionals will also include free raffle prizes and give-away items for everyone in attendance.  The cost per person is $12.  Seating is limited.  Because of the popularity of this event we can no longer reserve seats without pre-payment.

Look for the registration form inside the newsletter, or stop by the Tower Square management office located on the upper level.  For more information call (413) 733-2171.

Changes Planned for the 2008 Farmers Market Season

The call to farmers and other vendors has already gone out, and the plans are underway for a great 2008 Farmers Market season.   Organizers are planning some changes this year at the Farmers Market at Tower Square Park, which we believe will enhance attendance at the market for both the farmers and you.the shoppers!

As in years past, the market will once again run from June to September.  The hours will be from 10am 3pm. The biggest change you will notice this year is that the Market will be held on Wednesdays instead of Fridays.  That change is being made as a convenience to you, as over the years we have observed that many downtown office workers tend to take Fridays off for extended weekends during the summer months.

The second change that we are hoping to implement, is the possibility of providing a new pre-order service for consumers.  Those details are still being researched.  Watch for more exciting information on that as we draw nearer to market time!

We are also extending our search for new vendors, while at the same time maintaining and "growing" the produce side of the market as well. The Springfield Business Improvement District is also once again providing the lively FREE CityBlock  Lunchtime Concerts during the Wednesday Farmers Market at noon.

The Farmers Market at Tower Square Park is a joint venture between the Springfield Business Improvement District and the Tower Square management office.  Look for more details on the market, including the list of vendors and CityBlock Concert schedules in future editions of the TowerTalk newsletter, or online at www.VisitTowerSquare.com or www.SpringfieldDowntown.com .

Enjoying a nice afternoon of shopping and browsing at the

Farmers Market at Tower Square Park last summer, local

office workers and residents are looking forwardto the

upcoming 2008 season.

Irish Eyes were Smiling, Singing and Dancing!

The annual Tower Square St. Patrick's Day celebration was well-attended last month.  Featuring a lively performance in the Citywalk Cafes by The Healys.  Food court patrons ate their lunches tapping their toes to the sounds of some of Ireland's most beloved music, performed by Don and Sheila Healy.

Meanwhile, downstairs in Center Court patrons enjoyed wonderful performances by the McDermott Academy of Irish Dance.  Students of the Academy, dressed in colorful traditional costumes, dazzled audiences with their skillful footwork.

Both The Healys and the McDermott Academy of Irish Dance have become something of a St. Patrick's Day tradition at Tower Square.  Patrons say they look forward to their return each year.

Arrayed in beautiful Irish dance costumes, more than

20 dancers with the McDermott Academy of Irish Dance

impressed audiences with their fancy footwork during

last month's festivities.

Don & Sheila Healy returned to Citywalk Cafes last

month to perform their wonderful brand of Irish music

for Tower Square's St. Patrick's Day celebration.

Local Author Speaks at Edwards Books

Suzanne Strempek Shea is no stranger to Edwards Books.neither are the local author's  own publications!  Strempek Shea, who used to occasionally help out behind the counter at the bookstore, is also known for doing book signings at Edwards.

Most recently, Strempek Shea, a novelist and memoirist from Palmer, spoke to an audience at Edwards introducing them to her newly released literary work Sundays in America: A Yearlong Road Trip in Search of Christian Faith (Beacon Press, $24.95).

The book chronicles the local author's visit to churches across the country.  While not originally intending to write an entire book about her experiences, Strempek Shea explained that what started out as only visiting a few churches turned into a cross-country exploration.  The project soon took on a life and a book of its own!

You can purchase your own copy of Strempek Shea's new book at Edwards Books, located at the top of the center court escalator on the upper level.

Red Cross Pleased with Blood Drive Results

Last month's blood drive netted the American Red Cross 40 pints of much needed blood.  Organizers say that the complimentary hand massages and vouchers for free facials that were offered to donors, helped to boost participation.

Their next blood drive at Tower Square is scheduled for Thursday, May 1 from 11am 5pm in the Meeting Room.  For more information on blood donation you can contact the American Red Cross Blood Services department at (413) 537-5150.
