Tower Square Going Dark for Earth Hour - Urging Others to Do the Same!
Tower Square's neon "Q" won't be casting that familiar blue glow at the corner of Main and Boland Way.at least for one hour this month! The blue lit logos above the Tower Square main entrance will be turned off along with all other non-essential exterior and interior lighting at the complex from 8:30 9:30 pm on Saturday, March 27th, in observation of National Earth Hour.
The CBRE/Tower Square management team will be joining other companies around the globe in support of the World Wildlife Fund's (WWF) third annual Earth Hour.
Earth Hour is a movement that unites cities, businesses, schools, organizations and individuals by turning out lights for one hour in a symbolic and unified call for action on climate change.
Last year more than 80 million people around the world participated. This year the WWF expects more than 800 cities and 80 countries will take part
While Tower Square management is taking action, they are also encouraging both their tenants and surrounding complexes to do the same by turning off all non-essential lights, computers, kitchen and office equipment before leaving their workplace on Friday, March 26.
"We have been making steady progress in our effort to conserve energy here at Tower Square over the years. It is our hope that calling attention to those efforts during Earth Hour, will inspire other individuals and facilities to follow suit, and reduce their own carbon footprint," commented Fred Christensen, Tower Square Sr. Property Manager.

Tower Square Director of Engineering Operations to Retire
Director of Engineering Operations, Ken Allard will be missed as he retires from his duties later this month after 39 years of dedicated service at Tower Square.
For almost four decades he has been a familiar face at Tower Square, and probably knows more about this complex inside and out than anyone. After 39 years of service, Tower Square Director of Engineering Operations Ken Allard will be retiring at the end of March.
In September 1971, Ken was hired as the only electrician for the complex. Over the years, he has gone from being the lone electrician to becoming the Director of Engineering Operations and supervisor of the current seven-member engineering department.
From the bygone era when the complex was known as Baystate West to today under the name of Tower Square, Ken has seen and been a part of many changes here.
One of his most memorable projects includes the cutting edge move to transition the once all-electric facility to a direct digital control HVAC system, saving the complex hundreds of thousands of dollars in energy costs over the years. Staying on top of energy conservation in all aspects of the building has continued to be a priority of Ken's throughout his career.
Ken was also instrumental in overseeing the extensive retail remodeling project in the late 1990s, as well as countless tenant space build-outs, to name a few.
After all of that hard work and ingenuity, what will he miss the most after retirement?
"I will miss the daily challenges. I've had an opportunity to do what I like the best, from the minute I walked into the complex in 1971 and every day since. There was never a dull moment. Now I will be looking for those challenges elsewhere," Ken explained. "I will also miss the good people who I have had the good fortune to interact with over the years."
Post retirement Ken says he is looking forward to settling into a new life style, which will incorporate all of the things he likes the best, including spending time with his family, skiing, hiking, bowling, volunteering and working on other projects.
"It will be hard to replace Ken's experience and knowledge, and his presence will be missed," commented Tower Square Sr. Property Manager Fred Christensen. "We all wish him the best in his well deserved retirement,"
