Pet Blessing Set for Park
The public is invited to bring their pets to Tower Square Park on Saturday, October 6, for a pet blessing sponsored by St. Francis Chapel. St. Francis Chapel, located at 254 Bridge Street is located directly across the street from Tower Square Park, which is a perfect spot for the pet blessing, according to Fr. Jim Brennan, Co-Director of St. Francis Chapel.
The pet blessing runs from 9 11am and will start with a short prayer service and a scripture reading. "This will be a time for us to remind people of the wonderful blessing and wonder of animals, and a time of reflection on the gift of animals as an expression of God's love for us," said Fr. Brennan.
This is the second annual Pet Blessings at the park. Last year's event was a great success, according to Fr. Brennan. Approximately 25 pets were blessed, mostly dogs, a couple of cats and even a pet turtle.
The event falls just two days after the celebration of the Feast of St. Francis, which is on October 4th. St Francis was known for his love of and deep appreciation for all of nature.
Anyone wishing to bring their pet to the blessing, should make sure that their animal is either on a leash or in a cage for their protection. Participants are also asked to use pet etiquette and be prepared to clean up after their pets.
