November 2007

The Citywalk Cafes food court was alive with the songs of the 60's as the talented performers of SHOUT! The Mod Musical gave them a sampling of the show, which was featured at CityStage last month.
Shout! Preview a Hit for the Lunchtime Crowd

It may have been short, but the performance was sweet! That's the word from the lunchtime crowd at Citywalk Cafes, who enjoyed the mini-preview performance of SHOUT! The Mod Musical last month.

Organizers at CityStage brought the five young women performers to Tower Square to kick off the show's performance, which was scheduled to open at CityStage that evening.

Performing a quick medley of songs from the 60's, the ladies wowed the Citywalk Cafes patrons. It was just enough to whet their appetites, and encourage ticket sales!

Tower Square is hoping to have more such CityStage/Symphony Hall previews in the future. Stay tuned...

Safety Request from Standard Parking
For the safety of all Tower Square garage patrons, officials with Standard Parking are asking all drivers to refrain from using their cellular phones while driving inside the garage to avoid distraction. Drivers are also encouraged to use reasonable speeds while driving in the garage as well.

Look for the reminder caution signs to be installed inside the garage this month. Your cooperation is appreciated by Standard Parking as well as the other drivers and garage pedestrians.
Rein's Deli Express Sure to be a Hit at Tower Square!
Imagine layers of delicious lean and tender juicy corned beef piled high on rye with all of the fixings of a Reuben, accompanied by a side of fresh homemade potato or macaroni salad. Is your mouth watering yet? You won't have to leave it up to your imagination for long, because Rein's New York Style Deli Express is scheduled to open at Tower Square this month, and wait until you sample their menu!

Rein's is slated to open in the former Gus & Paul's location around mid November, offering a breakfast and lunch menu.

Rein's partner and local restaurateur Stu Hurwitz says the Hurwitz family is looking forward to serving the downtown community. "Many people over the years have referred to me as downtown Springfield's biggest cheerleader, and I haven't changed. I believe the turn-around for downtown has started, and the best way to be a part of that movement is to put our money where our mouths are," commented Hurwitz.

Hurwitz and his sons Mike and Steve are also partners at the Rein's Deli in West Springfield, which opened in May 2006, as well as owners of UNO's on the Riverfront next to the Hilton Garden Inn.

The new Rein's Deli at Tower Square will initially operate Monday thru Friday from 7am 3pm. Hurwitz says the decision to stay open later for the dinner crowd is an option for the future, if they feel it makes good business sense to do so.

The restaurant will employ between 15 and 20 people, and will use an "order at the counter" approach, whereby the customer will first place their order at the counter, then choose their table, and a server will bring their meal to them when it is ready. Hurwitz, says they believe this style of service will help to expedite the meal for the busy office worker, while at the same time offer personal service from the Rein's Deli staff.

While accommodating the busy lunchtime crowd is paramount, says Hurwitz, making sure the product is superior is equally important. "The top quality products we use along with the recipes that the original Rein's Deli in Vernon, CT, has used for 37-years, will delight and exceed the expectations of our guests. That combined with great customer service and excellent hospitality, will keep our guests coming back again and again," explained Hurwitz.
Dream Studios to Become New Tower Square Tenant
The DREAM Studios dancers performing in Center Court last February for a Black History Month Celebration, will now be conducting their practices at their new Tower Square Bridge Street location.
Perhaps you have seen some of their prodigies dancing during a Black History Celebration in Center Court, or for a lunchtime performance in the food court.

Now these youngsters who attend D.R.E.A.M Studios Inc, will be coming to Tower Square for their rehearsals and other after-school activities, as Dream Studios takes residency as one of Tower Square's newest tenants.

Dream Studios is a non-profit agency established to introduce urban youngsters to the performing arts and to strengthen them academically. They will be leasing 3600 square feet in a retail space at the corner of Main Street and East Columbus Avenue.

Dream Studios is the brainchild of Executive Director and Founder, Benjamin Smith, who said "I wanted to give Springfield's youth something that I wish I had while growing up in Springfield. My goal is to provide youth opportunities to experience the arts, not just participate in the creation, but also to experience them in other theaters."

The organization funded in part by grants, donations, events, fundraisers and a small weekly fee per participant, offers after school instruction in theater, dance, music as well as academic assistance.

Dream Studios is coming to Tower Square after leaving their former location at 145 State Street, which is being turned into a hotel. They plan to move into their new space this month.

"There is a movement to revitalize downtown through the arts, and DREAM Studios will be located at the hub...Tower Square.the gateway of all good things to come," commented Smith.
