Internet Confusion Has Many Travelers Seeking the Personal Touch
Tired of spending so much time on-line sifting through gobs of information in an attempt to find decent airfares, available car rentals, and the best hotel accommodations? If so, you are not alone, according to published reports.
Recent articles in the NY Times, Philadelphia Enquirer and Money Magazine report a shift in trends back to the local travel agent. The articles site problems that many on-line travelers are experiencing as they attempt to sift through an overwhelming amount of information on the internet.
According to Tower Square's local travel expert, Janice Webb, owner of Emerald City Traveler, consumers are turning back to travel agents or consultants because they want the personal touch.
"They want to speak to someone in person, preferably someone who knows their likes and dislikes," explained Webb. "They also want to reach someone who answers the phone when they are stuck in an airport and want to extend their vacation."
Webb also sites problems as a result of airlines outsourcing their work to other countries, causing long waits and language barriers, something that can be avoided by working with a travel agent.
Small agencies, like Emerald City Travel, are among the types of agencies prospering from this trend shift. Travelers are turning back to these agencies, which specialize in cruises, tour packages, and travel to specific countries and regions of the world.
